Great scholars doubted the claim that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

For example, imagine someone says there is a lion with a sword on the battlefield.

The literal meaning is that an animal is on the battlefield with a sword.

But the apparent meaning here is that the lion refers to a strong human, not the animal.

If we have new, certain proof about a subject, then that proof becomes the new apparent meaning.

So when scientific discoveries are made, the apparent meaning can change.

But as long as the scientific proof is not an absolute and uncontested certainty, we remain on the apparent meaning of the texts so as not to open the door to arbitrary interpretations.
